The existence of Ward Disaster Management Committee (WDMC) in Savar Municipality is crucial for building community awareness on Covid-19, disinfecting area and helping the marginalized poor through relief distribution. When the first patient identified on 8th March in Bangladesh, WDMC of ward 7, 8 and 9 of Savar Municipality called emergency meeting for taking necessary steps in prevention of coronavirus in their area. “After WDMC formation in 2018 through Proyash-II, we, 27 members are involved in urban risk reduction activities at ward 9. In this pandemic situation, we are not staying at home. We started building community awareness and disinfecting roads and buildings coordinating with UCVs and Savar Municipality Disaster Management Committee. At present, we are working as member of relief committee of Savar Municipality to distribute food aid to marginalized people. Besides, we are working on Dengue awareness activities and larviciding as there is another possibility of dengue outbreak during the upcoming monsoon.” said 50 years old Anis, Member Secretary, WDMC of ward 9.
